Antony Wood seeks a base in the south of the constituency

February 10, 2005 5:06 PM

Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Antony Wood, scouted out possible sites for a resident's surgery in the south of the Windsor Constituency during a visit to Ascot and neighbouring villages.

Mr. Wood, who is considering offices in Burleigh Street (see photo), wants people in the south of the constituency to feel more 'ownership' of Windsor's Parliamentary seat. "By giving Ascot residents the chance to meet their MP in an environment where they can discuss issues and local problems we can make Windsor's parliamentary seat more representative," said Mr. Wood

"If elected, I will work for everybody in the Windsor Constituency, not the people in Westminster. While some candidates may intend to spend their time massaging ministerial careers, I just want to serve the electorate. In order to do this I must reach out to those parts of the constituency where people feel they have been neglected in the past.

"Geographically the Windsor constituency, with over 70,000 voters, covers Windsor town; parts of Slough and Maidenhead; areas of Bracknell and 12 rural parishes which lie mainly in the South including Ascot, Sunnningdale and Winkfield.

"This is not a natural mix and surely one of the jobs of any future Parliamentary representative will be to bring a greater sense of community and belonging to this diverse seat? After the General election constituents regardless of how they voted - must feel they have a representative who cares for the whole area, who is easy to meet and who will listen."

Mr. Wood is also looking for a base in Foxborough and Colnbrook and Poyle, the two most northern Wards in the Windsor constituency. "Voters from these parts of Slough will have helped choose the next Windsor MP. I believe that in the past they have been neglected and deserve better. I am prepared to take action now to ensure they get the same representation as all other constituents in future."
